A Starry Affair: Sonam Kapoor's Choice Of Necklace For Her Big Day

Wondering what is the name of the long necklace that Sonam wore on her wedding day. We have the answer for you and all the details about this piece.

Bollywood actress Sonam Kapoor is the perfect modern bride, charming and a true fashionista. Time and again the actress has shown her love for classic traditional jewelry that never seems to go out of style. Pictures of her wedding revealed, and as expected, she makes a stunning bride. She went completely traditional with a red lehenga from designer Anuradha Vakil, traditional jewelry - a sarpech on her head, a gold choker, a Gutta Pusala Haram and haath phool. In this blog, I will discuss all about the long necklace she wore, Guttapusala Haram.
Guttapusala haram, rarely refereed as rani Haar is a traditional Telugu emblem, inspired from Nizami Jewellery and is very lively and colorful. Gutta Pusalu : Gutta in Telugu means "a shoal of small fish", and Pusalu means "beads". It’s mainly bunches of tiny pearls strung together and hanging from a gold chain. Set with Cabuchon rubies, emeralds, and polki diamonds, the gold necklace is fringed with bunches of small pearls and this design has originated in areas in vicinity to the ancient pearl fisheries along the Coromandel coas.
In her wedding, Sonam paired Guttapusala haram, with a traditional enameled choker set. The Guttapusalu became first came in limelight after the famous wedding of Sreeja Kondiela, youngest daughter of South movie megastar Chiranjeevi . She teamed this customary necklace with her beautiful pink kanjeevaram saree.

These Haram sets adds grace to high neck dresses. Just as Sonam's guttapusallu haram, you can have one with which is studded with emearlds, rubies, pearls and polki's. This one piece of jewel is enough to get you all the attention in any festivity you are looking forward to. If you are in for a fusion look, you can try guttapusala harams on crop tops and half sarees. Like Sonam Kapoor, brides can go in for both choker and long  haram gutta pusalu.
You can team up this piece of jewel with Chandbali's for an elaborated traditional look. Guttapusala is your one go jewelry for all those anarkalis hanging in your wardrobe. You can never go wrong with this piece of jewel. Not only Pearl beads but also  ruby or emeralds beads  merge very well with the gold and  gives the haram a beautiful  and distinct look. So instead of pearl beads these harams can also have ruby or emeralds beads, adding a fusion of hues to your necklines.
A heavy Guttapusala should weight atleast a 100gm og gold but if you are looking for something that is light on pocket, these are available in silver and 1gm gold base as well. Below is a look book of some Guttapusala I admired,

Jewelry, My One Nonpareil Love....!!!! Part -1

Jewelry is a very spiritual thing for me and when I wear it I feel beautiful. It is a way of expression and a way of life to me. Since pre-teens I have been that girl who has been starry eyed for every beautiful jewelry piece that comes across her. I have always dreamt of my wedding day with  jewelry being the biggest part of the trousseau.
When the D day arrived I dug out my old scrapbooks and in sheer excitement marked all the pre-eminent pieces that I would like to own. I wanted that jewelry collection that has me looking put together for whatever formal event is on my calendar after marriage.
I have been a bride for more than a year now and have always been complimented for my jewelry. I don't own a vast collection of pieces but all my pieces are unique and comprehensive helping me cover all the festivities that I have to attend. Jewelry to me is that one thing that enhances my beauty and sensuality right from a ‘nathni’ to earrings to bangles to pajeb.
So here is some jewelry staples that you might need for your new life ahead.
Tevta
Tevta is native to rajasthan and few parts of haryana. It is made up of yellow gold often adorned with some meenakari and kundan work. It is usually in rectangle or a square shape and is worn with moti mala. This is very good from investment purpose as it mainly constitutes of Gold. I came across this design when I was 14 years old and added it to my wedding trousseau list. It adds grace to my dresses, making it perfect for a outfit that has light neckline. It elevates all my light, designer dresses and giving me that glamorous look. I pair them with Gold Jhumkas and a gold kada. The best part about them is that this design is not very common and  is a attention grabber.

Recently I spotted Socialite Rhea Kapoor wearing it on Sonam Kapoors wedding. Though I like my design way better but still the concept is same. You can find many designs for tevta on pinterest.

Polki Kundan Set
I remember being awestruck behind the curtains, watching mummy put on her jadau necklace with a silk sari, a beautiful memory etched in my mind. As my D day arrived, it was my time to finally own that crown piece of jewel. For my wedding Day I chose a Kundan Polki set enameled in green color. It complimented my maroon lehanga and captured the portrait of a perfect looking bride. This one piece adds a whole new layer to an outfit. I chose such a necklace that can be used both with traditional and  modern attire. I paired it with a kundan nath from the house of Hazoorilal Jewellers. You can choose kunda over polki as polki jewelry is 10 times expensive than the kundan ones. I usually wear this piece on a lehenga or a deep colored gown to accentuate that look.

I spotted Chitrangana Sen wearing almost a similar set with a saree.
